ICA San Diego / Central

The ICA San Diego / Central exhibits work by California and Baja Norte artists. You can visit this amazing attraction at 1439 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101. The art institute was founded in 1941 as the San Diego Business Men’s Art Club and changed its name to San Diego Art Institute in 1950. Additional info the institution became nonprofit in 1963, and now features works by local and regional artists.

This year’s exhibition includes work by SRESHTA RIT PREMNATH, a contemporary artist born in Bangalore, India and now based in Brooklyn, NY. She explores the relationship between humans and plants. She will present amorous plaster sculptures and metal fencing, as well as a selection of plants cohabiting within the exhibition space.


ICA San Diego / Central features works by SD County fine art faculty. Highlights include works by David Avalos, Carlos Castro, John Dillemuth, Terri Hughes-Oelrich, Neil Kendricks, Matt Rich, and Perry Vasquez. During opening night, visitors will be able to enjoy the artwork by paying just $20 for a ticket. The museum also has a free industry pass available for those involved in the creative arts.

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned artist, the ICA San Diego / Central offers several programs to help make contemporary art more accessible and meaningful. Classes at the institute are led by accomplished local artists, and are held for six weeks each semester. Each class offers different techniques and themes. ICA San Diego also offers an Art Camp that focuses on developing young artists in a museum setting, while giving them an opportunity to work alongside contemporary artists.

The exhibition’s dates have been extended to Sept. 17. The Central Library Art Gallery will be open from Sept. 17, 2022, through Jan. 7, 2023.
